A presentation by John Lamble

Psychology is the study of mind and behaviour, topics of great interest to philosophers and theologians for more than 2000 years. During the Enlightenment, questions arose which still intrigue us, such as whether Nature or Nurture is more important in human child development. In the late 1800s the study of the mind in the modern sense developed as a branch of philosophy and medicine. As science acquired glamour and funding, both experimental and observational psychology acquired status, and various schools of thought differed about how much 'science’ there is in psychology. Psychology had a pervasive influence in almost all aspects of people´s lives in the last century and immense resources were devoted to the study of the mind. Other sciences such as physics and chemistry have since had an influence on psychology and this talk will cover these modern developments. John Lamble spent 11 years in pharmaceutical research before working in publishing and running his own scientific software business. He studied psychology and counselling over 15 years. He is now 'retired' and working harder than ever.
