This guided walk will be in support of the campaign to refurbish the old fishing boat Os Cavalinhos (the little horses), and it will be led by local historian Marco Lopes. Built in the 1940s, the Arraial was the base of operations of the last tuna armação in Tavira (and in the Algarve) until 1971, and from 1974 it was used as accommodation for retornados from Portugal´s African colonies. This guided walk will show an integral part of Tavira´s recent history. Marco Lopes has been interested in the history of tuna fishing in the Algarve for some years and has made contributions to Câmara publications on the history of Tavira and its industries. voluntary monetary donations can be made at the end of the walk.
